Some information on the capital of Israel as we discussed in class on Tuesday. It will be interesting to check the winter Olympics and see what capital is listed for Israel.
Adopted as Jerusalem in 1950 – for Jews in Israel, it is the Capital, but due to political issues, the embassies remain in and around Tel Aviv.
See the following websites:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel – in 3rd paragraph "note 1" shows the U.S. position on Jerusalem and their embassy (along with others) remaining in Tel Aviv.
http://unitedwithisrael.org/jerusalem-or-tel-aviv/ – similar sounding to the Jerusalem Law and US act that was overturned as unconstitutional.
http://www.thecommentator.com/article/1424/according_to_the_bbc_israel_has_no_capital_city – Israel doesn't have capital city designated in the 2012 Olympics!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/events/israel_at_50/israel_today/79650.stm – this is from 1998
